Safeguarding

Kirkgate Childcare is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children, young people and vulnerable adults that we come into contact with. We believe all staff, students, volunteers and visitors have an important and unique role to play in child protection. Safeguarding children is vital and part of the legal requirements of our Ofsted registration.

Everyone has a responsibility to safeguard children.

Supporting your child’s personal, social and emotional development

Is paramount to us as a team, we understand that if your child is happy and has a strong sense of belonging, they will thrive and make continuous progress.

Home Visits

We offer all families the opportunity for your child’s key person to visit your home before your child starts their journey with us

Settling Periods

After the home visits, you and your child will be invited to visit the nursery and become familiar with your child’s key person and the environment. Your child is unique and may need several visits until you are happy for them to stay without you.

Key Person System

Your child will be allocated a key person, who will attend a home visit, support you and your child with the settling in process. This person will support your child on a day to day basis, particularly with care routines and also will complete daily observations and assessments which will identify your child’s strengths and areas for development.

Parent Partnership

We believe this is important for us and your child, by working in partnership in a variety of ways with yourselves will enable your child to thrive and make continuous progress.

Special educational needs

Sarah is our SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator). We ensure that we support all children’s needs and treat all children as individuals. Working in partnership with you as parents is crucial to your child’s development. Early identification is paramount, if your child has an identified additional need and requires further support we will support you and liaise with other professionals when needed. Sarah would arrange regular meetings, identify a support package with a clear and consistent approach for all those involved. We are alert to emerging difficulties and respond as soon as appropriate, however also understand that parents know their child best and every child is unique.

Quality environment for your child to learn and develop

We provide a quality environment for your child to access independently with the support of experienced and dedicated practitioners. We offer a wide selection of stimulating resources which will help your child to extend their learning and development.

Developmental movement play

Involves giving children the freedom to move their bodies in lots of different ways which gives children opportunities to engage in innate movement patterns.

Outdoor

We offer your child extensive outdoor play opportunities, which includes regular access to our nursery garden, walks to our allotment, the library and nursing home.

Creation station

At Kirkgate Childcare we look at the process and experience of creating rather than the product, children learn through play and open-ended activities, so process art fits in with how children learn because It allows them the chance to explore the world around them, ask questions, see how things work, make their own decisions, it allows them room to be themselves but most importantly leaves them free to just create.
